RICHMOND BOROUGHS FIRST EVER PRIDE CELEBRATION
09/09/2023 - 12PM-7PM - OLD DEER PARK
On the 9th of September 2023, Richmond will be hosting the boroughs first EVER pride celebration at Old Deer Park (Richmond), from 12pm (Midday) - till 7pm.
Richmond Borough was the first borough to have an openly gay mayor and one of the first to allow same sex marriages, taking this into consideration, we wanted to host a day to celebrate Richmond's LGBTQ+ history, as well as provide a day for LGBTQ+ residents within the borough and surrounding areas, a day to celebrate in a safe and welcoming environment.
We have decided to collaborate with Richmond based charity The Basement Door, an organisation put in place to provide the youth with gigging opportunities, music lessons and work experience.
Ronnie Martine - Founder
'The inspiration behind Richmond Pride was to provide a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community within the borough and surrounding areas. Unfortunately to this day, there are no LGBTQ+ venues within the borough and those that did exist have now all closed down. Taking into consideration Richmond's strong LGBTQ+ history and the amount of individuals who identify as LGBTQ, I took it upon myself to create the safe space needed and believe that this will benefit the community long term'
Ronnie is the founder of LGBTQ+ Events organisation RM Events (Real Music Events) and has previously been nominated for a National Diversity Award as well as nominated and shortlisted for a DIVA Award under category 'Young Entrepreneur'.
'With further research, the statistics of LGBTQ+ identifying people to the lack of safe spaces was astonishing, below I want to show the figures to demonstrate how much this event truly is needed'
The Basement Door Youth Centre (Richmond) - have so far helped 1471 musicians.
Richmond LGBTQ+ community - 401 members
Richmond Borough - 195,200 residents (2021)

Kingston LGBTQ+ Forum - 2177

Stephanie Collingwood - Co-Founder/Volunteer/Paramedic
'As the founder of my own LGBTQ+ football team Clapham Queens FC and supporting/volunteering for LGBTQ+ organisation RM Events in my spare time, I am always advocating for the queer community and supporting in anyway I can. Myself and my partner (Ronnie) want to provide Richmond Borough with a safe space, so individuals from surrounding areas and local residents can come together to make Richmond a more inclusive space'
